About the Artist
I, Jecel Mae Barit, is a Filipino graphite artist based in Hawai'i who specializes in highly detailed, realistic portraits of people and pets. My work focuses on capturing expression, personality, and the small details that make each subject unique.
Using graphite as my primary medium, I build each portrait through careful layering of tone, texture, and contrast. I’m drawn to the subtle qualities of pencil work—the softness of skin, the depth of the eyes, and the quiet presence behind each image.
Most of my pieces begin with reference photos provided by clients. From there, I translate those images into hand-drawn portraits that aim to feel both accurate and personal, preserving not just appearance, but presence.
Each commission is created with patience and attention to detail, with the goal of producing artwork that feels meaningful and lasting. My focus is always on creating portraits that hold emotional value—whether of a loved one or a cherished pet.
I currently work primarily in graphite, as it allows me to achieve the level of detail and realism that defines my style.
